Rye Aces Cycle Speedway Team during the 1950's
Many thanks to Gary Booth for supplying me with the following pictures taken in the early 1950’s of the Rye Aces Cycle Speedway Racing Team, the team raced on a cinder track on the Town Salts . As many of us can remember this was very popular during the fifties with many of the riders going on to make their mark in motorcycle speedway.

The above picture taken on the Town Salts about 1950 is of the Rye Aces. Sitting on the bicycle is Michael Bryant (father of current Rye Wheelers member Dave). Standing left to right Albert Booth (Team Manager - Gary’s Uncle), Brian Oliver, (young boy unknown), Bob Boswell, Derek Banister, Bert Polley (now of Rye Hire), Mr Playford and Cecil or Fred Booker sitting at the front from left to right are Brian “Gus” Gutsell, Elenor Clarke, Ann Boswell, Eve Bailey and Rex Swain (Town Cryer).

Bert Polley of the Rye Aces hits the deck in one of the heats - it is worth noting the size of the crowd watching

Once again it is thanks to Gary Booth for obtaining this cutting of the Rye Aces back in the 1950’s, The cutting itself explains the occasion it is interesting to note that the club rules did not allow racing on a Sunday.
In the Picture are Harold McNaughton (Hastings Saxons) Albert Booth, Rex Swain, Bob Boswell, Derek Banister, Brian Gutsell, Micky Bryant, Cecil or Fred Booker, Ken Donno, Bert Polley, Mr Playford and his son.
